I recently had the pleasure of working with a lovely client on one of my 12-week packages. She came to me feeling pretty fed up – with bloating, sugar cravings, poor sleep, anxiety, mood swings, low energy and hot flushes, frustrated with not being able to lose weight and generally not feeling like herself any more. She had food binges, and said she thought she was addicted to sugar.
Over the course of 12 weeks, we made gradual changes to her diet and lifestyle, and by the end of it, she had undergone quite a transformation. The day of our final consultation she sent me this feedback, and I wanted to share it (with her permission!) to give you a sense of what it’s like to work with me as a Nutritional Therapist.
“Working with Suzy has been an absolute pleasure, from our initial meeting to understanding what I was trying to achieve, to actually achieving it. My initial meeting was a face to face chat about what was going on with my nutrition, and learning what foods can affect you. With going through menopause as well, I felt slightly complicated, as I had tried so many things to get over the lack of sleep, and mood swings and weight gain, and just general feeling of not being myself anymore, and just wanting to be me again.
We sat down and discussed all my issues that I felt I had, and my goal was not to lose weight really, I wanted to eat better to feel better, to get rid of the bloating, and bad cravings, and to hopefully get some sleep, and not feel so irritated and angry, as that’s how I felt all the time.
We discussed some changes around the foods I was eating, when I was eating, and how often. I thought I had a sweet tooth, and whenever I felt frustrated, I would reach for the chocolate or anything sweet to be honest. But from my initial meeting Suzy obviously with her knowledge and expertise in nutrition actually could see that I possibly wasn’t craving sugar, I was using it as a crutch for everything else that was going on in life, and we all have things to deal with on a day to day basis.
What I really loved was Suzy didn’t try and push any diet on to me, she didn’t suggest I stopped eating anything or restricted any food groups, she just explained to me what those foods could be doing to me, and how they were making me feel.
I signed up for a 12-week course, as I wanted to take my time and to learn everything I could about how to eat healthy and feel better. I gave it my full attention as I really wanted to feel better, as I had struggled for at least 3 years and I only felt I was getting bigger and out of control with eating bad foods, and feeling terrible, no sleep, feeling frustrated, it was a honestly becoming a nightmare. I just didn’t feel myself anymore. In fact, I didn’t recognise myself anymore. I would look in the mirror, and just see someone else.
Anyway, I started the course, and over the 12 weeks, we have looked at every aspect of nutrition, how to combine foods, the best foods to eat, the amounts of different foods, and the frequency of foods. I’ve learned a lot about basic nutrition, and I’ve loved cooking and doing the new recipes, which we had fun in choosing each week. Nothing is pushed on you, you do it at your own speed, take on board what you like, and there is no punishment for not doing everything. Suzy has been there for me to explain how I’ve felt, the lows and highs, but I have to say there have been very little lows, and they are caused through everyday life. Suzy even recommended some ways to combat stress through diet and relaxation.
I’ve gone from meeting myself coming back, never relaxing, taking no time for myself, and just filling myself with all the wrong foods, to – wait for it – finding myself again, the old me, maybe not as I was, but the old me in a new version.
I eat really well, a very balanced diet, no calorie counting. I no longer eat sweet things, as I don’t really like them, and I never needed them – it was a quick fix for stress really, and my menopause systems are virtually non-existent.
I had hot sweats like no other – gone.
I wasn’t sleeping at all – now I can sleep over 8 hours a night.
I no longer get bloating – I don’t crave anything, and I’m always full after eating well.
I’ve lost weight – even though that was not the reason to do this but I’ve lost weight, which I have not been able to manage in the last 3 years.
I no longer ache – and sometimes it creeps up on you, and you realise – hey, I’m not aching!
I have to say it’s been a real life change for me, as I never thought that I would feel this good again. I feel happy, and content that what I’m doing is working. It’s never going to be a quick fix, but I can honestly say this has not been hard to do, it’s been a real pleasure working with Suzy, and actually understanding what we eat makes a real difference to how we feel and look.
My skin is so much better, my hair feels better, and I can honestly say I feel so much better, like I said, I feel like me again.
Thank you Suzy for all your patience and time, and recommendations, and this is my new lifestyle from now. I don’t want to feel like I did, and after countless other things I’ve tried, and even HRT, I now can feel healthy and happy eating healthy nutritional food that’s good, no chemicals, no sugar for me, that’s my choice of course.
So if you have any symptoms like I had above, I would recommend the consultation with Suzy, and see where you go from there. It’s been a real pleasure, and I will continue to follow the advice, 100% recommend.
Happy Client”
